Problems of Prototyping

Definitely the more real the prototypes are, the better the tests and so, the final product.

Expensive prototypes need to be destroyed in order to get reliable information

Unfortunately not always is possible to have the realism shown above (consider the car as a system). Limited budget is just one of the inconveniences related to prototyping. Other problems are:
  • Time Building prototyes takes precious time. Thus, care has to be taken when developing and manipulating them since bad usage of prototyping can lead to inaccurate results.
  • Planning It requires experience from project managers to cost and plan a design process including prototyping.
  • Non-functional features As prototypes are not a full version of the product, some important features could not be included in the tests.
